Out of state dredgers

Postby small shine on Tue Feb 12, 2013 8:58 am

It seems that every article I read talks about Oregon once only having a couple hundred of dredgers in the area and now since the California ban there are thousands. I just wanted to see what peoples opinions are about out of state dredging. On one hand I believe that it is ok if they have the proper permits etc, on the other it appears that they just put a huge spotlight here in Oregon. Why dont they just ban out of state dredgers and not everyone, either way its going to be a dam shame if they get this billl through..

Honestly, as long as they follow the rules like the rest of us and get the proper permits, I have no problem with them. They're simply exercising their right to mine under the 1872 Mining Law, like we are. Heck, I mine in California occasionally (though not suction dredging), when I'm visiting family down there, so it would be hypocritical of me to pitch a fit about someone else coming to Oregon to do the same.

I think that they should be allowed if they follow the law like we do. But I seen last year where they set there dredges up in some good places and went back home . and just used it on week ends. Is that fair to us? I don't think so. If they set them up they should use them or take them out when they leave. just my thought on this.

Pitting Oregon miners against out-of state miners is very bad for miners everywhere. The last thing we need is to be fighting each other, and trying to limit mining rights! It would be much better to band together with miners where ever they might reside.

I believe everyone has the right to prospect and dredge with the proper permits. It just seems that Oregon has been put on the radar due to the increase of dredgers from California.

All of the enviro's that complain about the increase in dredgers in Oregon don't even know what they are talking about.. They just like to point fingers and proclaim facts. Of the increase in Oregon, 80% of the were FROM Oregon, not California lol, and out of the remaining 20%, the majority were from Washington. Doesn't matter where we come from, as citizens of the U.S., it is all of our rights to mine/prospect. And to be more technical, the mining law does not make distinctions between methods of mining. Mining is mining whether by pan, sluice, high-banker, trommel, or dredge..

I know we kind of felt "overrun" at Boomer hill this year. It looked more like a weekend in Baja with all the R.V.s and screen tents up and down the river.
But think about it like this; These folks are bringing tourist dollars with them. They are buying goods and services that the fine citizens of Oregon sell. They do buy fuel here and have to pay the taxes on it. They also have purchased a 700PM permit.

But the main thing is that hopefully is that they will stand with us in our fight for our rights. Alot of these guys know that they have lost the fight in CA. and if they sit on their hands here, then it is over and they better take up Golf.

Like another said on here, I dont want to be discriminated agaist when I go down to CA. to mine, so I wont do it here.

You only know that IF they ever do open it back up down there then I am outta here for the summer. 8-)

The environuts are wanting the miners to do just that...start to argue and squabble about mining areas and rights to mine across state boundaries. We can't let something like this happen...it will weaken our efforts and begin to destroy the chances we have to eliminate bad legislation that has been introduced by the environuts and to get rid of those law makers that have been "influenced" by these groups to support them. (by LEGAL ways, of course...votes, public out cry, recalls, legal actions and etc.) Miners need to continue to support other miners, no mater in which state they are living and mining. If we don't, we will loose the right to mine and a lot of other activities as time goes on. Just saying......... :D

during last season, in one day I counted 31 dredges on the river..... I have to ask myself why it was stopped down south...abuse of the system instead of working with it. I even met a small handful last year who did not even have permits and several with oversized dredges..... where do we feel a sence of intitlement just because you own a dredge? sorry but keep it up and it will be baned here in Oregon.....then where will we be... stop and ask yourself, you ready to loose your rights here in Oregon too??? just a bunch of whiny kids mad because they can not do just what they want. I have never been popular on here, and I am sure this will ad more discontent.... when you have to many in one area they need rules and laws to keep it equal. see it for what it is.
