D.C.P.A. GOLD & Treasure Show

Postby weezy on Wed Feb 06, 2013 6:45 pm

Unforeseen circumstances prevented me from attending the Gold and Treasure Show in Roseburg last weekend.
I would like to see some feedback from the members of OGH who attended the lectures, and the show in general.

The show was tiny! That's my only complaint about it. We had the regulars like D&K, Armadillo, and Rita. Other than that there were only around 15 booths I'd say. It was good to see some guys I haven't talked to in a while, but there wasn't much to look at. It was nice to see that there were some good knowledgeable guys doing the lectures. This was my first time at the Roseburg show. I'll probably just do the Salem show from now on and not spend the gas money to go to Roseburg again.

It is sad that the show was so small. I think they could have had another 25-30 vendors without cramping the area. All in all it was a good show. Friday only had about 400 people through the door. Saturday had over 1000 people through the door. I saw a hibanker/dredge and a 2 1/2 dredge go out the door. Most everybody had pans for sale. Gary Sturgill was there representing GPAA and selling gold pans for $5.00. Galice Mining was there gathering signatures opposing SB 115, 370, 401 and I heard from Ida that they gathered over 400 signatures. Hal Anthony, Kerby Jackson and Tom Kitcher gave 2 hour seminars. I was there from about 1:30 Thursday helping set-up until about 8:00pm Saturday tearing down. It was exhausting but I had a great time. I spent some time talking with John Holsten who is a 77 year old miner and he still mines every day. Of course he uses backhoes and D8 bulldozers where he prospects. Funny how the USFS see who it is and leaves the area. That's what comes of knowing and using your rights to mine.

P.S. I'll probably see you all in Salem!

I went Saturday because I had Friends who were running some of the booths that day. I also wanted to hear Kerby Jackson speak about minning history. Which when the talk started it went immediately to the current laws that may have a big impact on Us. SB 115, SB 370, SB 401 & I forget the other one? There were some good concepts and strategies about combating these Senate bills. I brought up how we should find people we have common ground with Us on these issues. I was thinking of water rights and farmers. Which there was a very articulate cranberry farmer who talked how the water regulations have effected them. One of the speakers went on to talk about negative experiences property owners in the scenic section of the Rogue have had and some of the issues that would arise if they made the streams, creeks & rivers into scenic area, in the Senate bill. I stayed some, of the following speaker... ? I don't remember His name? But He discussed mining law and apparently has a radio program. It was a small show. But I would rather go to a small local show. A added bonus is I got a chance to pan a couple of pans in the river after the show. Dosn't get much better than that. I'll be there again next year.

The closest I got to getting there was doing a lockout on one of the vendors cars in the parking lot .

Lockouts are fun stuff. Being paid to break into a car.

I miss doing that when I drove cab.
