On Sunday, AurumFlake and I hit the creek with his 4", got on the bedrock and had a good one.

Attached is a photo from the first of three clean ups - two nice little nugs and some really nice flakes and chunks, some of which were a struggle to fit up the sucker bottle. By day's end, two more clean ups gave up another nice nugget intertwined with quartz and lots more nice chunks and flakes. The nug in center is 3.1 dwt, while the one intertwined with quartz seemed a little heavier. (Hopefully Aurum will update with a good pic and weight, since he picked that one and also got the smaller nug in this photo - really a big picker laced with rough quartz).

Can't say all went perfect (some clogs and one major calamity), but a perfect day nonetheless.

Okay Baja, here's one thing not to do:

Do NOT be so occupied that you don't pay attention to what's going on.

I was in the middle of quick panning the first clean-up and Aurum was busy feeding material into the nozzle and we were both totally oblivious to the fact that the tailing pile was getting just a little "big". In fact, we were so oblivious that by time I finally looked up, there was a little island in the middle of the creek and the back end of the sluice box was heaped with about 10 inches of gravel. It's amazing that we didn't sink it and I suspect that if another 10 minutes had went by, it probably would have.

Needless to say, we had to shut down and do a MAJOR clean-up, not to mention shovel all the tailings away.

As the second nice nugget (the one Aurum picked that is wrapped in quartz) was in that particular clean up, there is no telling what we lost due to the calamity.

Morale: Pay attention and be sure to shovel your tailings away in a small creek.

Nice gold there. Good to see your getting out there and getting some gold. Made any progress on the new dredge? Looking forward to getting down that way if I ever get my affairs in order up here.
It's so simple a caveman can do it.

Yes and no, on the dredge progress.

Basically, I couldn't get enough water flowing through that triple, so for the moment, I'm running a single 16" sluice that is more or less standard apart from a sort of boiler box on it.
